Viola and Violin
Cecelia Goist has been teaching Suzuki violin/viola in the Cincinnati area for 30 years. She currently teaches Suzuki at Sands Montessori with the Suzuki Cooperative for Cincinnati Public Schools. She is also an instructor in the Suzuki programs at Northern Kentucky School of Music and the Wyoming Fine Arts Center.
She was a faculty member at the Cincinnati Waldorf School teaching traditional beginning and intermediate strings classes, grades 3 through 6.
Cecelia attended the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music majoring in viola performance, studying with Peter Kamnitzer and Raymond Stilwell. Prior to that she received her Bachelor of Music in viola performance from Central Michigan University. While at CMU, she taught in the string pedagogy program, which utilized the Suzuki method.
Cecelia began Suzuki teacher training after attending the American Suzuki Institute at Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She has been trained and registered in the current ECC class, 1A and 1B class, and Books 2-6 in violin and books 1-4 in viola.
Cecelia’s Suzuki teachers have included, Kay Collier McLaughlin, Margery Aber, Alice Joy Lewis, Linda Stieg, Roger Stieg, Paul Landefeld, Doris Preucil, William Preucil, Carrie Reuning-Hummel, and Carol Smith.
Cecelia has been a member of the viola section in the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the West Virginia Symphony, and the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra. She continues to perform as a freelance violist in the Greater Cincinnati area.
